Inauguration’s Aftermath …
Actual “life” took me into DC today and, tired of dealing with traffic, I decided to Metro.
While in the Metro I noticed something which, frankly, I barely noticed during the Inauguration … probably because it was simply of a piece with the surrounding adulation.
Pepsi was certainly seizing the day and, in the process, taking “carpe diem” and in subtle irony mixing it with “caveat emptor” into a fine corporate mush of an ad campaign … and festooning same in all possible ranges of captive-passenger vision. Kinda creepy … and just a tad Stalinist I think.
An Ode I might say to the generation seemingly convinced that life has a reset button. Note the URL: refresheverything.com …
I’ll add more to this sad display when I get home. Life still intervenes, after all.
**** UPDATE ****
Here’s the rest of my photos … in no particular order. They speak for themselves, I think.
Please forgive the fuzziness and handshake … it was dark and I hate using the flash.
I should say that, believe it or not, all of these photos were taken at a single station. Adds to the creepiness, mai oui? We were awash, as it were, with the O. And I didn’t even photograph them all … some were just boring and there were repeats.
… I never did like Pepsi anyway …
The Inauguration 01.20.09
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people together here in DC. I have to admit … this was absolutely awesome.
And I go way back … back to the old Vietnam protests. I’ve seen a lot of people milling about the streets, I can assure you … but I’ve never seen anything like this.
I wish I could give you a feel for the leviathan that beached here in DC today.
Suffice to say, I suppose, that the image below is a side street.
Sure Sure, there were pockets of insanity … what would DC be without pockets of insanity?
We had a strong military presence throughout the city (which is unusual) and that was kinda cool.
… And the moonbats were out (but not in force). Kinda pitiful, actually …
But there were a LOT of people. A LOT.
This was in front of DAR Constitution Hall (more on that with the video to come).
OK, there’s at least one in every crowd…
… hawking his or their usual idiotic, Jew-hating messages under the thin guise of “open-minded” thinking. It’s just part of the landscape nowadays. Sheesh.
This is new(ish), though. The shape of things to come, if I’m not mistaken. Hope and Change can mean many many things to many many people.
Case in point.
Unbelievable.
Ya know … I’m gonna kinda miss this … He’s a Dallas fan, of course. I say that as a native Washingtonian and Redskins fan. To a Washingtonian, this makes perfect sense.
I like this photo …
I have no idea what to say about this …
THIS, however, speaks for itself. Loudly.
As does this.
PETA was out in force.
Here we have some random shots taken during the remainder of the day. I must have walked 10 or 15 miles back and forth. Please enjoy.
… during the acceptance speech … a typical reaction. OK … I actually liked a lot of his speech, but I mean really … ugh.
… he had a dog …
I’m Done
Ok … Not much going on except unbelievable numbers of people everywhere. Everywhere. Mostly (99.9%) quietly exultant, which is to be expected and actually kind of nice and fun. I got some video and a few photos … I’ll post them when I get home. Which is going to be easier said than done I fear…
Obama’s Speech
This was taken earlier … the network is spotty at best … I managed
to catch the speech near the Treasury building … about as close to
the White House as possible without a pass.
At the Washington Monument
Battling crowds … not a lot going on except huge crowds … I’ve
never seen anything like it.
